On an experience curated for history enthusiasts and lovers of wine, Explore Sideways will take you on a memorable journey of the incredible Nemea region in Greece. We’ll explore some of the area’s ancient ruins with a local archaeologist where you’ll hear fascinating stories of the past. From there, we’ll lead you through vineyards known to produce some of the best wines in Greece before settling down in a top chef’s home for an indulgent lunch. Lastly, you’ll experience this awe-inspiring region by helicopter to wrap up an unforgettable day.
Temple of Nemean Zeus
Said to have once been the home of the Nemean Lion who was later killed by the hero Hercules, the town of Nemea is steeped in gripping history. Joined by one of our expert local archaeologists, you’ll explore the Temple of Nemean Zeus that impressively still has 3 of its original limestone columns that date back to about 330BC. Surrounding the temple, you’ll wander past the ruins of baths and take in the spectacle that is the stadion which was used in the Ancient Olympic Games.

Wine and Dine Like the Greeks
Onto the vineyards, your first stop will be a boutique, organic vinegar producer. Made using the region’s unique grape variety, Agiorgitiko, you’ll taste your way through handcrafted, ruby vinegars paired perfectly with local delicacies. From here, we’ll whisk you away to an award-winning wine estate to experience a wine nicknamed the “Blood of Hercules”. Remember Hercules who killed the Nemean Lion? According to Greek legend, Hercules drank this local wine before his battle.
After tasting the local wines, you’ll join an esteemed chef for an incredible lunch set in their beautiful home before heading onto your last activity for the day.
