Start your day off at one of the smallest boutique wine estates in the Franschhoek Valley, a mere 50 minutes from Cape Town. Nestled at the foothills of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, this boutique winery is home to a variety of bold reds and delicious whites such as their unique Viognier, wines which have created an outstanding reputation over time. Spend time here with the winemaker who will walk you through the history of the estate and through the process and incredible art that is winemaking.
Next, visit another off-the-beaten-track estate, well known for their outstanding Syrah and incredible white blend. Located in the naturally-formed amphitheatre between the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountain ranges, the estate is the combination of two existing farms and now run by an amazingly small team of nine individuals who see winemaking through from vine all the way to bottle.
Before your lunch stop you’ll make a turn at an estate driven by a passion for their heritage, their grapes and the wine they produce. Still handpicking and hand selecting their bunches on the sorting table in order to gain a better understanding of the quality of the harvest before extracting the juice and ensuring that only the best bunches are used in the winemaking. This same attention to detail is carried all the way through the winemaking process – continuing to produce the same classic wines for which they have become internationally renowned.

The last stop on the itinerary offers both breathtaking views and a delicious range of wines. Gifted with some of the finest terroir in South Africa, this small producer handcrafts limited quantities of boutique wines. Minimal intervention in the vineyards is aimed at reflecting the full potential of the mountain terroir and a thoughtful study of soils, temperatures, wind variations and sunlight aspects led to planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, and a few interesting blending varietals.
