Here’s an attempt at choosing which of the endless great festivals in Cape Town and in the western cape not to be missed! I will start off this month with listing the festivals and events, and then take a look at each month to break down which we will do and take a tour of it to give you an idea of what to expect, which, as with everything else Cape Town does, is never done in half measures. Yes, I am biased, but definitely have every right to be with all the magic we create, for our locals and visitors! We will also be filling you in month by month on which festivals are family oriented and which are great for tour groups to take in.
I will have to start with late March to April festivals and events since we are moving well into March already and a lot of the wine festivals planned still have to announce their dates, so here goes, a list to use to get you’re planning into full gear:
March:
25-26 March Stellenbosch Vineyards Pizza & Wine Festival, well, if that doesn’t make your mouth water nothing will! There will be something for everyone at this divine festival, even for those with alternative diets! That’s Cape Town for you!
April:
15 – 17 April get ready for the Easter Vortex 2017 in Caledon, no one who loves Vortex dare miss this, it just gets better every year!
22 April The Bot River Barrels & Beards Post-Harvest Fest, a harvest celebration with a difference, don a big beard, enjoy tables laden with food and beautiful wines, and that’s just the start!
24 – 30 April AfrikaBurn! This year’s theme is ‘Play’ and if this is your cup of tea then you have to book very soon, this is an unforgettable, world famous experience in the Karoo, get ready to play all day and all night long, in the raw! Oh, and you will come back covered in sand, forget about the shower, just have fun!
28-30 April South African Cheese Festival. This is one of the biggest outdoor culinary events on the calendar, held in Sandringham, filling you up with the widest variety of cheeses you can be sure will be accompanied by superb wine!
The list of festivals and events still to be confirmed, but not to be missed, include the Constantia Fresh Wine Festival, Diemersfontein White Wines on Tap Festival, yummy idea, the Noordhoek Crush Wine Festival, the Constantia Food & Wine Festival, the Elgin Cool Wine & Country Festival, Robertson’s Valley Wacky Wine Weekend, hmm, sounds great, and finally, the Hermanus Food and Wine Festival, what joy to be had so close to the whales!
