Make sure your trip to the Mother City is complete by experiencing the best restaurants Cape Town has to offer. Below you will find our selection of the greatest restaurants in Cape Town, from typical South African food to some delicious tapas (because what is an amazing holiday without amazing food right!?).

Authentic Eats

Moyo is located in the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. This authentic restaurant is inspired by traditions and heritage of South Africa. The legendary buffet is a pan-African feast, including bobotie, bunny chow and Moroccan tagines. Besides the legendary buffet it is also a popular place with tasty classics, from peri-peri prawns, meaty grills and Senegalese line fish. The famously warm local hospitality and modern African ambience make the experience an unforgettable one. In the summer, you can even enjoy a wonderful picnic on the sprawling lawns (a Sideways favourite!).

Culinary Creativity

The Pot Luck Club

The Pot Luck Club is situated on the top floor of the Old Biscuit Mill on Albert Road in Woodstock. The restaurant has been dubbed the coolest place to be in Cape Town and its success is based on innovative cuisine, served in an edgy but relaxed environment. The menu of The Pot Luck Club is made up of a collections of tapas sized with an emphasis on sharing. The sharing plates are divided into the 5 basic tastes: salty, sour, sweet, umami and bitter. This will allow you to try each sensation on it’s own to complete the whole tasting experience. If you have the time, we highly recommend the weekend brunch, which offers unlimited bubbly and even a bloody mary bar.

Underground Eatery

ASH Restaurant

Ash is a brand-new spot just off trendy Bree Street, the heart of the Mother City foodie scene with a focus on creative, small plates and food prepared on the grill. During cooking, they are looking at what happens when you focus on flavour, instead of all the other unnecessary frills. The menu is concise, considered and seasonal. Vegetables, meat and even seafood is cooked over open flames. Sustainability is a driving force behind every dish, so Ash has a strong emphasis on nose-to-tail eating.

Vibey Scenester

Kloof Street House

At the foot of Cape Town’s vibrant Kloof Street, rising from a fairy-lit garden, lies a dining oasis that is popular with locals and visiting celebrities and models alike. Set in a magnificent Victorian house, Kloof Street House is an experience as enigmatic as it is intimate. The grand old dame is more than just a restaurant, it is a collection of interesting rooms and spaces, each with a character of its own. The brasserie-style menu is the expression of a love for creating delicious meals and a consciousness of the ingredients and where they come from. All the meat is free-range, grass-fed and responsibly sourced.
